ABOUT US
The New Helvetic Society (London) is a prominent social and cultural club that has been connecting Swiss expatriates and friends of Switzerland in the UK since 1916.
We organise regular events, including social gatherings, cultural outings, outdoor activities, and shared meals and drinks. These activities not only celebrate Swiss culture but also encourage community participation and build friendships among members. Our community thrives on the contributions of its members. We believe in inclusivity and collaboration, where everyone can share their unique stories and perspectives, enriching our collective experience.
Team
Sylvie
Sylvie grew up in a small village in Vaud before moving to Edinburgh in 1999 to study English and then travelled around the world. Now based in London, she works for the NHS as a nurse in the addiction service. In March 2026 became the president of the New Helvetic Society, where she enjoys organising events and connecting with the Swiss community.
Gemma
Gemma grew up in sunny Caslano, Ticino, and moved to London in 2009 to study. She also has strong ties to Zurich and Basel, where her mum and brother live. She is working in civil service and enjoying meeting new people with similar interests—or not! Her favourite NSH events are the hikes.
Andy
Andy has been Treasurer of the Society since April 2024 and leads our active events like the popular hikes. Professionally he previously had a 28 year career in the Risk Management Department at a major US bank, reaching Managing Director title, and now focuses on his hobbies like NSH, Ultra marathon trail races, mountain biking, and travelling. He is a British national but also became a Swiss Citizen in March 2026.
Huan
Huan moved to Switzerland for his studies in 2020 and has been in love with the country ever since. After moving to London, he joined the NSH to stay in touch with Swiss people and Swiss culture. He currently helps with a variety of things in the community.
Miranda
Miranda moved from Uri to London in 2021 and has been working across the finance and sustainability sectors since. She particularly enjoys the NSH hikes and community runs and keeps exploring the city to its fullest.
Evelyne
Evelyne is an experienced ‘Swiss abroad’ having lived in several countries before arriving in London quite a few years ago. Within NSH she's currently looking after managing memberships along with supporting areas - including relaunching the NSH running group.
